About PFASfacts
PFASfacts is an independent information site about PFAS. It is not affiliated with 3M or any manufacturer, and every fact on it links to a published source.
Our mission
PFASfacts aims to explain PFAS clearly: what they are, where they are found and why they matter. The site is written for general readers, and it tries to be accurate without being alarmist or dismissive.
Independence
PFASfacts is not affiliated with or endorsed by 3M or any other company that makes or uses PFAS, or by any government agency. The site carries no advertising.
Sources and methods
- Primary sources only. Facts on this site come from U.S. federal agencies (EPA, ATSDR and CDC, FDA, NIEHS, USGS), the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the OECD and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
- Every fact is cited. Numbered references on each page link to the source it came from. Quotations are reproduced as published.
- Qualifiers are kept. When a source says “may”, “suggests” or “associated with”, this site says so too.
- Dates matter. PFAS science and regulation are changing. Each page shows when it was last reviewed, and regulatory proposals are labelled as proposals until they are final.
- Research notes. The notes used to write each page, with the exact supporting quotations, are kept with the site’s source files.
History of pfasfacts.com
From 2018 to 2025 the pfasfacts.com address hosted a website published by 3M, the manufacturer that produced PFOA and PFOS for decades. That site presented 3M’s position on PFAS. The domain lapsed in 2025 and the site was relaunched as this independent resource.
The 3M pages are preserved, unedited and with their capture dates, in the Archive. Where statements in them have since been contradicted by scientific or regulatory decisions, a clearly marked note says so. See What has changed since.
